Hi, I'm Shane Adams
I'm a Barton Creek resident here in Austin, Texas, and like many parents, I want my kids to appreciate the value of hard work and earning money at a young age.
Why GarbageKids?
This platform was born from seeing common challenges in our neighborhood and at home:
Young people looking for meaningful ways to earn money and learn responsibility
Residents getting fined for missed collection days, while busy families struggle to keep up
Parents wanting a structured way to assign chores, track completion, and teach financial literacy
GarbageKids started as a trash can service, but it's grown into something bigger: a platform where kids earn money from neighborhood jobs and complete parent-assigned chores for cash or heart rewards.
More Than Trash Cans
Today, GarbageKids is a complete youth entrepreneurship and chore management platform:
- •Neighborhood Services: Clients pay for reliable trash & recycling service from local kids
- •Parent Chores: Free self-service mode lets parents assign any task with dollar or heart rewards
- •Heart Rewards: A fun system where kids earn hearts redeemable for custom prizes set by parents
- •Parent Groups: Create school, sports, or family groups and invite other parents to join
- •Recurring Chores: Set it and forget it—weekly chores auto-generate so nothing gets missed
Part of Something Bigger
GarbageKids operates as a program under SLĀ Entrepreneurship, an initiative of the SLĀ Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering young people through meaningful work and community service.
For neighborhood service subscriptions, kids keep 90% of net revenue and 10% funds program growth, credit card processing fees, and technology costs. Parent-created chores are completely free—100% of assigned rewards go to the kid.
